Our architect partners have been busy in May applying for various awards…..and winning them!! Hazelmead is generating a lot of interest in the way BC has developed this project and is building a strong community alongside beautiful and affordable eco homes.
At the 2025 RIBA South West & Wessex Awards we scooped three awards:
- the Sustainability Award,
- Client of the Year Award,
- and the Regional Award,
- and have been selected to go through to the National RIBA awards later this summer.
Judges said:
“The project has exceeded the client’s aspirations by making a wider contribution to society. The design team has shown innovation and excellent use of environmental technologies, stretching the budget through repetition and robust material choices that still feel unique and characterful.
This is testament to how the right design choices can allow a community to grow, and sets a powerful example of determination and collaboration. This groundbreaking multigenerational cohousing project sets a new benchmark for sustainable living.”
Other awards won recently were a Pineapple Award for Healthy Homes and a Green Energy award for Whole Energy System Innovation.
Our Story So Far
Barefoot Architects have made a beautiful booklet of the Hazelmead project, illustrating our journey over the years with photographs and stories from residents about what it means to them to be living in Hazelmead.
